Famous Cotton Sari names in India

Cotton sari can be a really comfortable wear for summers.  Cotton saris are worn to combat the heat of the summer months. Many states of India have varieties of cotton saris. Some of these varieties like the Bengali tant sari are famous for fabric quality. Some like zamdani are famous for their thread work. Some Indian saris use khadi, which was originally a kind of home spun cloth, rough in texture. Wearing khadi is not a fashion statement. These saris come in white and slightly brownish color. There are several types of handloom style, embroidery and patterns that decorate the varieties of India cotton saris.

One of the foremost in cotton saris is the Tant sari from Bengal. These saris come in various design. The most famous feature of these saris is the starched crispness. Dhakai sarees were originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. But now the marvelous embroidery is widely produced in Kolkata in same pattern as well.  Some normal Dhakai sarees have plain thread work and the some Zamdani Dhakai saris golden thread work. Zamdani refers to the use of golden threads to create embroidery work on cotton saris. Though golden threads are used mostly, the plain threads can also be used. Chikan saris have special kind of perforated embroidery from Lucknow. The contrasting colors of threads are used to create work on these sarees. Sambalpuri sari is the most famous sari that comes from Odisha. The sari comes with vibrant colors and the special feature of this type of sari is pallu, which comes in intricate embroidery and makes the sari very special. Bomkai is another variety of saree that comes from   Sambalpur in Odisha. These Bomkai saris have a typical pallu of the saree.  The entire sari is covered with small dots of embroidery.

The border of the sari is slim. Pasapalli is a sari from the Bargarh district in Odisha. These saris have special squared patterns in pallu.  These saris are completely hand woven and that is why it takes several months to make one sari. Chanderi saree comes from central part of India. They are light and have bright sheen with semi transparent texture. Kota sari comes from same name place in Rajasthan. These can be worn casually as well as during wedding and festive occasions.
